Wayfinder
Working together to break the cycle of homelessness
The Wayfinder Programme offers support to people moving away from homelessness, temporary or insecure accommodation. Each individual is supported by their own volunteer, who will work with them on their individual goals, helping them to make positive changes, navigate their local community and establish a stable home.
Wayfinder is a new relational homelessness project being delivered by Greater Together Manchester. It will work to provide client led support to individuals who have experienced homelessness, temporary or insecure accommodation.
The Wayfinder Programme is now recruiting volunteers. Do you have the skills knowledge and life experience to support someone to make positive changes and find their place in their local community? Sign up to volunteer today and help us break the cycle of homelessness together.

Want to make a referral to Wayfinder? We are now taking referrals of people who would benefit from support, advice or reassurance when moving into a longer-term tenancy. We will also take referrals where support is needed to prevent an existing tenant from facing homelessness.
The Background to Wayfinder
Moving home and starting a new tenancy can be an overwhelming situation. A significant number of new tenancies fail within the first twelve weeks. This can be for a wide range of reasons including not moving into the property, failing to settle and make friends in the area, failing to resolve issues with the landlord, the property being in poor condition, accruing rent arrears straight away, failing to respond to correspondence regarding the tenancy or not getting utilities established at the property. Many of these issues are easily resolved but need someone to be confident and dedicated to addressing them.
People who have experienced homelessness often lack this knowledge and confidence, and find many of these hurdles overwhelming. As result, many people in this position will disengage and as a result either abandon the property or face eviction.
The Wayfinder Programme aims to match people who are moving into a new tenancy with a volunteer who can support them through that process and help them settle into a new community. The volunteer will work with the individual to support them in the most appropriate way depending on their needs. They will be regular contact between the volunteer and the participant to support them to settle into their new home and for as long as they need support afterwards.
